Pitching Philosophy The goal of the pitcher is to perform same actions each time to gain a
successful result on each pitch. If the pitcher also understands what is
supposed to happen with her body and where and when these actions should
occur, she can more readily correct mistakes that will occur from time
to time. Having this awareness is just the beginning. To be consistently
effective, the pitcher must also respond to many mental demands. In both
practice and game situations, the pitcher needs to be aware of body
movements and pitch results as they relate to speed, location, and
movement. Emphasis must be put on the correct fundamentals and basic mechanics. It
is the basic mechanics which form the foundation of the pitching
process. Whether they pertain to throwing the ball fast and accurately
or to throwing an advanced pitch, this foundation can ensure the
pitcher's success and career longevity. The concept of pitching breaks
down to performing an aggressive and sometimes even violent action with
precision. To accomplish this, the pitcher must develop a complex set of
skills. |
